Course Description:
Stockton University Physical Therapy Program, in collaboration with the Rothman Institute, Bacharach Institute for Rehabilitation, and AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, are pleased to provide this interdisciplinary conference, which is designed to present the latest advances in total joint arthroplasty for the knee, hip, shoulder, and ankle including surgical techniques and rehabilitation. Rothman Institute orthopedic surgeons will present surgical advances, physical therapists from Bacharach will present rehabilitation principles, and a nurse from AtlantiCare will present pre-op preparation for joint arthroplasty. Evidence-based practice will be highlighted in these presentations. There will be a 10 minute period for questions and answers at the end of each presentation. This course is designed for physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, and nurses involved in the care of patients with total joint arthroplasties.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this one day course the participant will be able to:
- Describe current advances in surgery for total joint arthroplasty for the knee, hip, shoulder and ankle.
- Learn and apply the principles of pre and post-operative management of total joint replacements.
- Incorporate effective evidence-based rehabilitation interventions into the physical therapy, occupational therapy, and nursing plans of care following total joint arthroplasty.
- Understand the role of pre-operative instruction for patients having total joint arthroplasty and the effect on post-operative outcomes.
- Appreciate and advocate for interdisciplinary collaboration in the pre and post-operative management of patients with total joint arthroplasty.
