Stockton to Mark Construction of F-Wing Overbuild with Beam-Signing Ceremony

Galloway Twp., NJ The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey will mark the construction of its new F-Wing Extension and Renovation project with a beam-signing ceremony Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at 12:30 p.m. in the grassy area in front of F-Wing, southwest of the Greenhouse on the campus here.

 

President Herman J. Saatkamp and members of the Board of Trustees of the institution will sign their names on a steel beam to be erected near the roof of the $13,995.000 project. President Saatkamp is scheduled to be on hand as well as Board of Trustees Chair Gerald Weinstein, and Trustees Stan Ellis, Michael Jacobson and Student Trustee Jonathan Furtado.

 

We did not have a traditional groundbreaking ceremony, and most of the other construction work to this point has been demolition and preparation work, said Dr. Saatkamp. The emergence of the steel is what most people associate with the commencement of serious construction. We thought a beam signing would be an appropriate and unique way to mark the occasion.

 

To safely access the F-Wing beam signing site, spectators are asked to use the G-Wing exit between F-Wing and H-Wings. Note that the east side of College Walk is blocked at D-Wing.

 

About the F-Wing Extension and Renovation Project:

 

Cost: $13,995,000

Size: 27,152 gross sq. ft

Planned spaces: 32 offices, Lecture hall, 2-tiered computer labs, 11 high tech classrooms, teachers institute room, teachers resource and lounge room, sky-lit atrium, new library entrance and gallery, new stair tower, building support spaces including additional bathrooms, custodial closet, mechanical and engineering rooms, photovoltaic rooftop panels, art inclusion with a 30-ft mosaic waterfall as the focal point of College Walk.

 

The project is on schedule. Construction began April 15. Steel erection and building enclosure phase expected to be completed in September, 2005 to allow the Natural Science and Mathematics Department to use the labs below.

 

Completion and occupancy scheduled for Fall, 2006.
