Stockton Enrollment Numbers Achieved as Administration Addresses Space Deficit; Capital Budget Request Submitted

Galloway Township, NJ The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey achieved a student body size that utilized every square foot of college space, according to an enrollment report released at todays meeting of the Board of Trustees. The College welcomed 812 new freshman students this fall semester while increasing the size of its developing graduate program. As a result, the Administration has achieved a total college enrollment of 7,035, with 86 percent of the undergraduates maintaining fulltime credit loads. There are a record total of 464 graduate students enrolled in Stocktons advanced degree programs.

 

As the college embarks on a significant construction and renovation plan as adopted by the Trustees earlier this year, we have now put in place a number of enhancements to meet the enrollment growth of the College in a responsible way, explained President Herman J. Saatkamp, Jr. These enhancements are in keeping with our facilities master plan and strategies for controlled growth of the College.

 

The enhancements include:

 

         The F-Wing Overbuild project, with construction well underway to add classrooms, faculty offices and a lecture hall among other needed facilities

         New faculty positions, including 14 this academic year with 12 more to be added next yearan addition of more than 10 percent to Stocktons faculty and a substantial move toward reducing the student-faculty ratio

         Expanded Graduate programs, bringing the Colleges total number of advanced degrees offered to nine including the new Master of Arts in Criminal Justice and the post-baccalaureate Paralegal Certificate program.

         Board of Trustees approval for a new Science Building and Student Center

 

The growth of the graduate programs is reflective of our ability to provide faculty and facilities in the evening, Saatkamp added. Our measured growth plan enables Stockton to hold the undergraduate enrollment at a steady level while we plan for increases as the new facilities come on line. Other planned future facilities include increased student housing, classroom buildings and parking garages, as well as upgrades to landscaping, signage and roads.

 

In another matter, the Board of Trustees approved its Capital Budget request. The College is moving forward on plans to build a new Student Center and Science building.

 

Stockton College, nestled in 1,600 acres of New Jerseys Pinelands, is the largest college campus in the state. It is a 15 minute drive from popular beach resorts. Stockton offers many of the educational benefits found in private colleges costing much more, as well as the cultural benefits of a public university. It has the added benefit of one of the lowest tuition costs in the state.
