Stockton Golf Classic Brings in Excess of $80,000 to Aid Scholarships

 

Formerly Small Social Event Evolves into Major Fundraiser

GALLOWAY TWP., NJ The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey collected gross proceeds in excess of $80,000 at last Tuesdays Fourth Annual Stockton College Golf Classic.

 

The event, held this year for the first time at Hidden Creek Golf Club in Egg Harbor Twp., has evolved in just four years from an intimate social event into one of the schools major fundraisers to help benefit scholarships for deserving students.

 

The Classics committee, our Office of Development and staff worked very hard to elevate the event to this level, Stockton President Herman J. Saatkamp, Jr. said. This event is now raising funds nearly at the level that our Annual Spring Benefit did a few years ago. Its gratifying to see the commitment our community leaders and supporters have invested in the College.

 

Honorary Chairs were Charles and Lynn Kramer with Rodger Gottlieb and Jack Gorny serving as co-chairs. Galaxy Technology, L.L.C. of Egg Harbor Township was title sponsor for the event, co-sponsored by Kramer Beverage, Ole Hanson & Sons and the Press of Atlantic City. Sponsors for the events reception were Commerce Bank and allRisk Property Damage Experts.

 

Beautiful weather with low humidity graced the event as 126 golfers participated in the days activities, which included lunch, dinner and numerous special holes during the shotgun start, scramble format tournament: closest to the pin, longest drive and opportunities to win cars with a hole-in-one. There was also a separate putting contest.

 

A scholarship recipient, Tara Barker of Moorpark, CA, spoke about her gratitude in receiving financial aid from the college. Her teammates on the Stockton softball squad served as volunteers around the course throughout the day.
