Longtime Professors to Recall Stockton College Myths and Legends

GALLOWAY TWP. What is the origin of the name Lake Fred, Stockton Colleges pastoral body of water located between the main campus buildings and the student apartments?

 

Why is the swimming pool a few feet shy of NCAA regulation length?

 

Were the first classes and science labs really held in an Atlantic City hotel?

 

Were all grades really Honors, Pass, and No Credit?

 

Was there a time when the college didnt calculate a GPA?

 

Could you really eat and drink in the library?

 

Was there a popular pub on campus?

 

Did students and faculty really smoke cigarettes in class?

 

Find out the answers to these and other intriguing questions on Monday, November 27 when the College Honors Program and Office of Housing and Residential Life present Stockton Myths and Legends: A Light Look Back at the Early Days. The presentation will take place at 7 p.m. in the Townsend Residential Life Center. Students, community members and the general public are invited to attend.

 

Among the speakers will be the following longtime professors and administrators: Demetrios Constantelos, Bill Daly, Claude Epstein, Larry James, Lew Leitner, Tony Marino, Fred Mench, Sandra Bierbrauer, Roger Wood, Elizabeth Elmore, and Yitzhak Sharon. Other currently unconfirmed participants will also join in the festivities.

 

Todays students know about the Stockton legends, but they may not be aware of some of the secrets that lie in the Colleges history, said Professor Michael Hozik, one of the event organizers. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to listen to those faculty and students who were here from the very start.

 

Questions from the audience will be encouraged and refreshments will be served.
