Richard Stockton College to Host Annual Scholarship Recognition Ceremony

 

More than 1,000 Students to be Honored at Event

GALLOWAY TWP., NJ The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey will honor more than 1,000 students, their families and scholarship donors on Friday, October 6, 2006 at the Annual Scholarship Recognition Ceremony. The event will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Sports Center on the campus in Galloway Twp.

 

Were looking forward to seeing so many of our top students and their families, and to saying thank you to the many private donors who have provided these opportunities to deserving students, said Marilyn DiGiacobbe, Chief Development Officer. The awards range from full four-year scholarships to many different merit-based scholarships.

 

With the cost of college escalating and state assistance declining, it is of critical importance to provide as much financial aid as possible for our students, Ms. DiGiacobbe said. She added that the institutions Board of Trustees and President Herman J. Saatkamp, Jr. increased institutional scholarship funds by 15 percent this year.

 

The total amount of financial aid available to Stockton students, including scholarships, loans, work-study grants, federal and state grants was nearly $45 million last academic year. That number will exceed $48 million this year, according to Sal Catalfamo, Dean of Enrollment Management. Merit-based scholarships totaled $1.75 million including institutional and private funds, which are administered through the Richard Stockton College Foundation.

 

Christine Skibinski, a senior Bachelor of Science candidate in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Mays Landing NJ, will speak at the event. Ms. Skibinski is the recipient of the $5,000 Dr. Vera King Farris Scholarship. She has been nominated for and is in the process of applying for a Rhodes Scholarship.

 

Stockton College is currently ranked sixth in the nation among public liberal arts colleges in the U.S. News and World Report rankings. Stocktons Scholarship Program ensures that this quality education remains affordable and accessible to the brightest and most deserving students.

 

The Scholarship Program is administered by the Office of Enrollment Management in conjunction with the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs. The program is made possible by both College funding and private donations to the Stockton College Foundation. Selections for these financial awards are determined by a Scholarship Selection Committee appointed by the President, including representatives of the faculty, administration, and Board of Directors of the Stockton College Foundation.
