GALLOWAY TWP., NJ The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey donated a free civic videotape entitled, The U.S. Congress and You, to high schools and other educational centers in the second Congressional District of New Jersey in cooperation with the Committee for Citizen Awareness. Approximately 20,000 high school students, in addition to community and junior college students, and others in the South Jersey area will have the opportunity to study the workings of the U.S. Congress and the impact of congressional and citizen involvement in democracy. President Saatkamp of the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey and Representative Frank LoBiondo are featured in the video.
According to President Saatkamp, The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey became involved with this public service project partly to address our concern over the fact that Americans have virtually the lowest voter turnout rate of all the developed democracies in the world. Even in the most recent presidential election, many of those eligible to vote did not cast a ballot. The purpose of this videotape is to enhance the American publics understanding of the workings of our democracy, encourage good citizenship, and increase voter participation.
The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey joined other prominent corporations, universities, and organizations across the country in providing this educational videotape. The video, The U.S. Congress and You is similar to other well-received video series about the other two branches of American government including Your Court System and You, and The Executive Branch and You, a series which also includes videotapes on the American standard of living, the U.S. Constitution, and patriotism. Over 30 million people have seen these award-winning educational materials nationwide, thanks to the support provided by over 3,000 corporations, universities, and organizations in the United States.
