It was during her journey at Stockton University that Joselyn Reiss realized her hobbies could become her career.

Originally, a Nursing major, after taking some classes Riess came to the conclusion that she was not passionate about the field.

“Prior to college, I had always thought about the idea of putting my artistic, creative skills to use in my future career. This lifelong hobby of mine was the driver to make the switch from majoring in the medical field to marketing,” said the Marlton resident who is graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. “Along with that, I have also always had a love for sports since I was a little girl. By putting these two hobbies and interests together within my career, I know that I will always be passionate about the work I will be doing in the long-term.”

Riess plans to use her degree to find a position in the sports industry, which she got a taste for during an internship with Subaru. For the past year she has worked with two teams in the marketing department: Product Launch and Brand Partnerships & Experiential Marketing.

“This involves being the liaison between Subaru of America and its awards partners to communicate necessary information regarding awards updates, asset approvals that contain awards, awards licensing/contracts, negotiations involving awards claim and disclaimer usage. Along with this, I also assist with the competitive analysis for certain carlines across the sea of competitors, research of the latest automotive industry updates, and projects involving future vehicles to a certain extent,” she said.

Riess also works on Subaru’s sponsorship of the Philadelphia Union, a Major League Soccer team. Among the perks is attending all Union home games to staff the company’s display and collaborate on co-branding for giveaways, events and apparel. 

Her Stockton education has opened other doors for Riess, including the opportunity to spend a semester in Greece.

“If I am being completely honest, studying abroad during the fall 2021 semester was an impulsive decision. One day I just woke up and decided that I was going to follow through with studying abroad, as visiting Greece has been on my bucket list since I was a little girl,” she said.

“Taking the semester to study abroad in Greece meant that I had the opportunity to explore a new environment, culture, art, music, food and meet new individuals from all across the globe. This experience was everything I could have ever hoped for and more. I had the opportunity to meet individuals from Bulgaria, Sweden, Germany, Japan, Greece and more, and I still keep in touch with some of those individuals to this day,” she said.

While there, she took classes at the American College of Greece. She also traveled to surrounding destinations including Aegina, Mykonos, and Rome. “If I could go back to this time period in my life, then I would and never look back—it was an experience that I will never forget,” she said.

Stockton also afforded Riess opportunities closer to home.

She relished her role as an Orientation Leader, working with the Student Transitions Program.

“My experience as an Orientation Leader allowed me to make a lasting impact on the incoming new/transfer students by providing them all the support I could to make their transition to Stockton University smooth and less overwhelming,” she said.

Riess also joined the Delta Zeta Omicron Beta Chapter at Stockton. “Throughout my time in Delta Zeta, I have had the experience of a lifetime with all of the lifelong friendships I have established, leadership positions I had the opportunity to hold, and also give back to the surrounding community via the multiple community service events we hold each year,” she said.

Riess is excited to start her career with the long-term goal of landing a job with a professional football team, but she’s not done learning. She hopes to one day earn her master’s in Sports Business, Hospitality and Management.
