Clinical Practice I Semester
What To Expect
This semester focuses on methods courses and fieldwork centered on actual lessons presented by students in school placement classrooms. The semester includes 80 hours of fieldwork with associated assignments.
Students entering this semester: Remember that mentors read your Educational Philosophy to help decide if they’d like to work with you, so please re-visit your Educational Philosophy and update it with any new information you’ve learned.

If you have passed Clinical Experience with a B- or better, finished your 50 hours of Fieldwork and have a GPA of 3.0 or above, you are eligible for Clinical Practice I in the Spring or Fall semester.
EXCEPTION: If you are interested in taking CP I in the summer, you must also pass the Praxis II in your content area by February 1st. There will be a MANDATORY meeting for summer 2023 CP I on February 2nd at 4:30 pm in F111.
- April 1st to apply for the next Fall semester
- October 1st to apply for the next Spring Semester
- February 1st to apply for the Summer Semester
If you are eligible (View the PowerPoint), log into the Clinical Practice I Application. Make sure that you pull down the correct semester you are going into (Fall, Spring, or Summer) and pull down the correct course: Clinical Practice 1. Do NOT select Clinical Experience, Clinical Practice 2 or 3.
- Make an appointment with your preceptor(s) on the precepting days:
- Fall Semester: Late October/Early November
- Spring Semester: Late March/Early April
You can find the name(s) of your preceptor(s) on your Degree Works in the top left corner.
- To move into the Clinical Praxis II semester you must pass Praxis II by the deadlines during this semester:
- October 1st for Spring CP II
- April 1st for Fall CP II

The hard deadline is February 1st. Praxis II scores will have to be received in the SOE office on February 1st.
