Galloway, N.J. -  The many talents of Stockton students were the focal point of the Board of Trustees meeting May 2 as the board recognized students for their academic talents, athletic prowess and personal character.

Stockton freshman Liam Rea, and his brother Sean, a senior at Brick Township High School, were recognized for helping save the life of a drowning teenager while on a spring break family vacation in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

President Harvey Kesselman read excerpts from a news story in which the two were cited for their quick action, calm and professionalism in helping get the boy out of the water onto a dock.

Executive Director of Athletics Kevin McHugh presented senior athlete Jared Lewis with his NCAA championship ring, noting that Lewis is the most decorated student athlete in Stockton’s history.

Lewis, who was recently voted Stockton Male Athlete of the Year for the third year, repeated as the NCAA indoor national champion in the triple jump this March and finished as the NCAA runner-up in the outdoor triple jump last spring. In the process, he became Stockton's most decorated student-athlete ever with eight career All-American honors.

Lewis also earned USTFCCCA All-Region status and won NJAC triple jump titles both indoors and outdoors. In addition he was voted NJAC Outstanding Field Athlete for the 2017-18 indoor season. 

Lewis will attend California University of Pennsylvania where he plans to get a master's degree in Sports Management. He will also serve as an assistant track coach.
