Christopher Catching

Dr. Christopher Catching serves as the Special Assistant to the President for Student Success, where he provides support to the President for the university’s student success initiatives with community, state and national stakeholders.

Dr. Catching served as the Vice President for Student Affairs at Stockton from 2018-2024, where he successfully led strategies to support equitable student engagement, wellness and success with university and community partners. The Division of Student Affairs secured nearly $1 million in external funding to support student success, received national recognition as one of the Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs by Diverse Issues in Higher Education and by NASPA-Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education for its support for first generation students under Dr. Catching’s leadership.

Dr. Catching was recognized as a Diamond Honoree by the ACPA Foundation in 2023 for lifetime contributions to the success of college students and the student affairs profession and is a national thought leader in the area of college student success and student affairs organizational development. In addition to his commitment to college student access and success, Dr. Catching serves the community as a volunteer on non-profit boards and organizations committed to access to healthcare, mentoring and cultural education and support for historically underserved communities.

Dr. Catching received a Doctorate in Social and Philosophical Foundations of Education from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, Master of Arts in Higher Education and Student Affairs from New York University and Bachelor or Arts in History from Montclair State University.

He completed executive leadership education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Institute for Education Management, American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) Millennium Leadership Initiative and the Center for Leadership and Governance.
