Chelsea Shields '15
B.S. Marine Science
Chelsea Shields graduated in 2015 with Bachelor of Science in Marine Science Cum Laude.
She was one of three students from the New Jersey Bethnic Studies class involved in the mapping of the Robert J. Walker. Through her fieldwork, Shields gained experience working with a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) and the multibeam sonar system. Her experience on this project prepared her to present the research for the NOAA and Explorers club.
After graduating from Stockton, Shields began her graduate work at the University of North Florida where she is studying the reproduction of the southern stingray using ultrasound and hormone analysis. This past March, Shields participated in her second OCEARCH expedition; her first expedition, she performed an ultrasound on a black nose shark revealing six babies and their zipper-like vertebrae.
