B.S. Environmental Science '12
I graduated Stockton University (nee College) in May 2012 with a BS in Environmental Science. Currently, I work as a Project Scientist for Hatch Mott MacDonald while pursuing my Master of Science Degree at NJIT. I have worked there since June 2012, a month after I graduated from Stockton. After a circuitous first 2 years of undergrad at another University, I transferred to Stockton to pursue my real passion in the ENVL program. Upon starting my job, I was astonished at just how much my undergrad degree prepared me to make the jump into the working world.
One particular course that comes to mind is Environmental Pollution and Regulation, taught by Dr. Tait Chirenje. I actually still have my binder with all the notes and handouts from the class and refer back to it every now and again whenever I have the opportunity to become involved in Federally regulated projects.
That is not to take away from the various other courses I took during my 3 years at
Stockton which helped prepare me to conduct wetland delineations (NJDEP and Army Corps
of Engineers Methods), noise impact assessments, Phase I ESA and NJ Preliminary Assessments,
as well as understand the progression from initial due diligence projects to site
investigation, remedial investigation, remedial action, and ultimately response action
outcomes. It is no accident that I am known around the office as “the swiss army knife”
for the variety of projects I have been able to successfully contribute to during
my almost 4 years here, and the company has Stockton’s ENVL program to thank for that!
