WHAT WE’RE TALKING ABOUT

When Alexa Moore joined Sigma Delta Tau, she was surprised it was the only sorority on campus that relied on an external car service for social events transportation.

That was the first thing she changed once the junior from Toms River was elected this year to the sorority’s executive board as the risk management chair.

The designated driver program she established uses other members of Sigma Delta Tau as designated drivers and was a big reason why Moore was selected April 13 as the 2023 Stockton HERO of the Year by the John R. Elliott HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers®.

“I could not be more proud to be aligned with something like this,” Moore said, holding a large poster stating “Be Like Alexa. Be a Designated Driver.” “I’ve worked really hard in my life to make myself proud of what I’m doing, and I think this might be my proudest achievement so far.”

“In just a few short weeks, you all will be recognized at the commencement ceremony – with your EOF sash – and you’ll be part of the over 15,000 students over the last 50 years who have shown the state of New Jersey, the institution and the world that, no matter what obstacles were put in your place, you’re able to overcome it,” Pulliam said. “So, be proud of that fact and be proud of yourselves and everything that you accomplished.”

military dependents Picture Stockton ... Honoring its Military Families

Sarah Wyatt, a Health Science major, came to the Military and Veteran Success Center in F-105 with her commencement cap and a framed portrait of her father, Mark Wyatt, pictured as a young man smiling in his brown leather aviator jacket and U.S. Navy service hat.

Wyatt's late father won't get to see her graduate, but she proudly wore her cap and held his photo as she sat down for a portrait session honoring both her father's service and her own sacrifices as a child of a military service member.

April is the Month of the Military Child, designated by the Department of Defense, to recognize the sacrifices and the challenges that military families overcome. Stockton's Office of Military and Veteran Services invited military dependents and their parents from the Stockton community to share their stories by posing for a portrait.
