Stockton Group to Explore Continued Growth
in Atlantic City
Stockton has officially begun efforts to study options that would enhance its impact in Atlantic City.
Strong demand for student housing in Atlantic City led to Stockton formally opening
the Phase II residential complex across from O’Donnell Memorial Park in May. More
than 900 Stockton students will live at the university’s two Atlantic City residential
complexes this fall.
President Joe Bertolino has formed a working group comprised of several members of the Stockton Board of Trustees, alumni, business and community leaders, as well as students, faculty and staff. Their primary initial task is hiring an experienced firm to conduct a feasibility study for Phase III, which is currently a 2.25-acre parking lot between Hartford and Albany avenues. Stockton does not own the property but would partner with AC Devco in the development of the project.
Hughes Center Honors Awards Recipients Announced
Philanthropist and business leader John F. Scarpa will receive the Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to
New Jersey public life at the Hughes Center Honorson Nov. 9, 2023.
Other honorees include U.S. District Court Judge Esther Salas, who has turned her
family’s personal tragedy into a campaign to protect judicial independence and democracy;
Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Chair Kevin O’Toole, a former Republican
state senator; retiring Democratic State Assemblyman Thomas Giblin; William Mullen,
New Jersey. Building Trades Council president; and recent Stockton graduate Emily Kramer.
The Hughes Center Honors are awarded for professional excellence and a commitment to public service, civility and bipartisanship that reflect the life and career of Ambassador William J. Hughes, who served as U.S. ambassador to Panama and as a U.S. congressman for 20 years. The awards program is sponsored by the William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy at Stockton.

We can't wait to meet our first-year students on Sept. 1 and 2 during new student move-in.

SPOTLIGHT ON: NAZ ONEL
Naz Onel, associate professor of Business Studies, attended the Transformative Consumer Research
Conference at the University of London June 18-20. While at the conference, Onel presented her work, "Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Living."
The international event hosted 37 tracks and 275 participants representing 18 countries.
"My ongoing research studies aim to engage with the environment in its broadest sense, considering the interconnection of economic, ecological and social elements with an interdisciplinary emphasis," said Onel. "At this biennial dialogical conference, I was the Track Chair for the research. The tracks were chosen after a competitive proposal submission and review process."

Instant Decision Day Welcomes New Ospreys
Students learned if they were accepted to Stockton and what scholarships they qualified for during Instant Decision Day on Aug. 23 at the Galloway campus.
Some new Ospreys got quite a surprise when they learned President Bertolino was actually the person offering them their acceptance packet.

Stockton Athletics Announces 2023 Hall of Fame Class
Stockton has selected one team and three individuals to comprise the 2023 class of the Stockton Athletics Hall of Fame. The group features the first postseason champion in school history and three All-Americans, including a two-time national champion.
The 2023 honorees are the 1985 Softball team, Nick Bologno (men's lacrosse), Jared Lewis (track & field) and Sasha Williams.
The Stockton Athletics Hall of Fame banquet will be held at 6 p.m. on Oct. 6 in the Stockton Campus Center Event Room as part of the University Weekend festivities. Tickets, priced at $50 per person and $15 for children under 12, can be purchased online here. For more information, contact the Stockton Office of Athletics & Recreation at 609-652-4217.
Media Day Celebrates Fall Sports
Ospreys participating in fall sports had a blast during an athletics media day held on Aug. 23 at Stockton’s Galloway campus.
The Press of Atlantic City came out to coverthe event, which was born from an idea sophomore Riley Lorenz pitched to University Relations & Marketing. Athletes were photographed by Lorenz, captured in action by a drone and video camera, and gave interviews to media. The collaborative effort between Lorenz, the Athletics Department, Production Services and University Relations & Marketing was a great way to get hyped for the upcoming season. Go, Ospreys!

Murphy Writing Winter Poetry & Prose Getaway Dates Released
Murphy Writing of Stockton University will host the 30th annual Winter Poetry & Prose Getaway at Seaview, a Dolce Hotel, from Jan.12-15, 2024.
The weekend event is one of the winter’s oldest and largest writers’ conferences. Beginning and experienced writers will receive craft discussion, writing prompts, writing time, feedback, motivation and inspiration.
The program is currently accepting registrations from those who are interested in writing novels and short stories, plays, nonfiction, memoirs, songwriting or poetry. Writers of all levels are welcome.
MOVEit Vulnerability Impact at Stockton
👉 A message from ITS: Recent news reports have highlighted multiple data breaches impacting millions, stemming from a security vulnerability in the MOVEit file transfer software. This software is utilized by several third-party organizations that maintain relationships with numerous corporations and higher education institutions. Learn more about these specific breaches here.
Changes to the 2024-25 FAFSA
The U.S. Department of Education is implementing a major overhaul of the processes and systems that offer federal student aid, starting with the 24-25 aid year.
As our faculty and staff work closely with our students, we want to make sure you’re aware of the updates being made to the FAFSA, not only to inform students but also because these updates could affect some of your processes.
Visit stockton.edu/fafsa to view a list of many of the changes you can expect to see on the 24-25 FAFSA.
Please note that the 24-25 FAFSA will not be available by Oct.1, 2023, due to the updates being made. Students and families can expect that the 24-25 FAFSA will be available on or before Dec. 31, 2023.
