Four Receive Fall Board of Trustee Fellowships
Four students with a wide range of majors were awarded the Board of Trustees Fellowship for Distinguished Students at the Dec. 6 Board of Trustees meeting.
“I’m so excited with the latest group of Board of Trustees Fellowships for Distinguished Students,” said Ian Bouie, director of Academic Achievement Programs. “They represent a wide variety of majors and interests at Stockton, from science to the arts to social work. I can’t wait for this cohort to share the results of their efforts with the Stockton community in Spring 2024.”
The students are Abigail Bell of Jackson, Jacob Kirschenmann of Beach Haven, Sheyla Piana of Elizabeth and Ashley Ramirez of Ventnor.
The fellowship program was established by the board in 1986 and supports student-initiated projects of undergraduate research and/or creative work in keeping with the educational philosophy and mission of Stockton. Awards are in amounts up to $1,000.

Financial Aid Gets Festive 🎁
Program Assistant Jenifer Robin and the staff of student workers in Financial Aid have been busy this holiday season, creating a winter wonderland around the office. The area is decorated with lights, snowflakes and snowmen, and each day, staff participate in a new holiday-themed game to earn head-elf status.

FROM THE SIDELINES
Stockton Falls to Eastern
The men’s basketball teamfought from behind in the second half but could not overcome Eastern University by a 77-73 score on Dec. 16. Tayvon Gaither topped a trio of Ospreys in double figures with a game-high 24 points. Before the game, the Ospreys honored the late Bob Hutchings, an assistant coach at Stockton for 26 seasons.
The teams battled through the first half before the Eagles could put some distance between the squads. With the score tied at 16-16 at the 11:43 mark, the visitors methodically stretched out the margin to 35-28 at the break. Stockton committed ten turnovers that allowed Eastern to gain the advantage.
📅 The Ospreys will travel to Reading, Penn. to play in the Albright Double Tree Holiday Tournament, where they will face Cortland on Friday, Dec. 29. After that match, they will face either Albright or Neumann the next day in the consolation/championship round.
OSPREY NOTES
Fall 2023 Compass Fund Projects Approved
The approved fall 2023 projects for The Compass Fund were announced this week via email. The Compass Fund provides seed money for student and employee initiatives that directly support the six areas of focus in the University’s Strategic Plan 2025 - Choosing Our Path. Projects approved for the fall 2023 cycle can be viewed here.
The projects include: Diversifying the Media and Software Industries Mentorship Series, Daniel Lichtman, assistant professor of Digital Studies; SCI-BOOST, Philip Eaton, assistant professor of Physics; Future Educators Get Inspired at the 2024 AERA Annual Meeting, Ian Bouie, director of Academic Achievement Programs; and Campus Center Open Technological Space, Joseph Thompson, director of Campus Center Operations.
Winter Break, Holiday Week Hours
Reminder: The University will be closed Monday, Dec. 25, through Monday, Jan. 1, 2024. Staff will not need to use accrued leave for any of these days. Only those employees who received prior approval from their Divisional Executive may report to work during this time. The University will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 2.
As a result, the first work week of 2024 will be 8:30 a.m.- 5 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 2 through Friday, Jan. 5. There will not be any compressed work week, but preapproved WFH schedules falling on a workday are available.
