$1M State Grant to Promote Arts, Culture in Atlantic City
Did you know the resort features about 100 outdoor murals?
Bringing attention to these unique art pieces, as well as other cultural aspects in the city, will become a lot easier thanks to a recent $1 million state grantreceived by Stockton.
The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) approved the Public Space Activation Grant in December under the Activation, Revitalization and Transformation (A.R.T.) program, which was created to support Atlantic City and Newark as the cities recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As a result of the pandemic, New Jersey’s thriving downtown commuter hubs saw decreased foot traffic and revenue as many residents and workers transitioned to remote work,” said NJEDA Chief Executive Officer Tim Sullivan. “Gov. Phil Murphy has made a commitment to bring a resurgence to our state’s downtowns by bringing more business, arts, and culture to attract residents and commuters.”
Through the grant, Stockton will work with four community development corporations (CDCs) in the city — Ducktown, Chelsea, Inlet and Midtown — to implement a multistage project to promote at a higher level the arts and culture of Atlantic City and its diversity, said Michael Cagno, the executive director of the Noyes Arts Garage of Stockton University.

Stockton Wins Doubletree Holiday Tournament, 90-70
The men’s basketball team controlledthe second half and won the Doubletree Holiday Tournament on Dec. 30 with a 90-70 victory over host Albright College. The Ospreys outscored Albright 44-29 in the second stanza.
DJ Campbell poured in a season-high 31 points for his fifth career 30-point game and grabbed eight rebounds on the way to tournament MVP honors. Campbell shot 11-22 (50%) from the field.
EJ Matthews-Spratleyscored 23 points and was named to the All-Tournament Team along with Martin Anguelov, who netted 14 points in the win. Tayvon Gaither also tallied 14 points and Jalen Collins tied his season high with 10 rebounds.
Stockton Downed by Gallaudet 72-66
The women’s basketball team led by eight early in the fourth quarter but was overtakendown the stretch and fell to Gallaudet University 72-66 on Jan. 3. The game was the first for the Ospreys since Dec. 13.
Imene Fathi led Stockton with 18 points and a career-high nine assists. Danielle Jeffreys scored a career-high 14 points and Skylar Fowlkes tossed in 12 markers

The Office of Human Resources shared the following message:
We are very sad to report the death of Jeffrey Kelly, senior building maintenance worker, who passed on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, at the age of 61.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Jeff started at Stockton on Dec. 10, 2005, having previously worked for AtlantiCare and Absecon Manor. Over the years, as much as he loved working at Stockton, Jeff was also a proud employee of ShopRite in both Hammonton and Egg Harbor Township, and you’d usually find him wearing both his Stockton and ShopRite badges to work every day.
His coworkers have described him as a “good and wise man” with a smile that “lit up the office.” Outside of work, Jeff was a sharp dresser and looked forward to his annual clothes shopping trips to New York. After, he’d come in and show off pictures of every outfit he purchased. He visited the Office of Human Resources frequently, and our staff will remember him stopping at each of our offices to say hello or chat about something we had in common, whether it be sports, cars or music. Inevitably, whenever he was around, he’d pop into my office and sing me a few lines of "Fame" or "Let’s Dance." He will be missed.
Our thoughts are with his family as well as the members of our custodial staff. We want to remind employees that if anyone is having difficulty with this, or any other recent loss, the Deer Oaks EAP services are available to you, including grief counseling. OSPREY NOTES
'Soft Launch' of the 24-25 FAFSA
The FAFSA has changed! On Dec. 30, 2023, the U.S. Department of Education started a “soft launch” of the 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
During the “soft launch,” the 24-25 FAFSA will be available for students and contributors to complete for short periods of time each day.
At this time, the Department of Education recommends that students and families do not rush to complete the 24-25 FAFSA immediately, especially since they will not send FAFSA data to schools and the State of N.J. until later in January/early February.
If students do attempt to complete the FAFSA now, please note that they could experience technical issues or glitches with the form.
Students and families don’t need to file today, but be sure to file before you miss any deadlines! Stockton’s Priority Filing Deadline for programs with limited funding is March 1. Anyone who received TAG in the 23-24 academic year must file their 24-25 FAFSA by May 15 (extended)!
