Stockton Ranked Top 10 in Military Friendly Rankings

Stockton continues to be recognized for its outstanding outreach to military veterans, ranking No. 7 among small public schools nationwide in a new Military Friendly listing.

Stockton also was No. 1 among surveyed New Jersey schools in the small public schools category. It’s the third year in a row Stockton obtained a Military Friendly designation, and it’s also the third year in a row the school has improved in the rankings. Stockton received the Gold award in 2023-24 and Silver in 2022-23 year.

The designation comes from the Military Friendly Schools survey, which is the longest-running and most comprehensive review of college and university investments in serving military and veteran students. The survey is sent out by VIQTORY, a service-disabled, veteran-owned small business that connects the military community to civilian employment and educational and entrepreneurial opportunities.

“This success lies with the dedication and commitment of Stockton's faculty and staff guiding military-affiliated students through their time at Stockton,” said Michael Barany, director of the Military and Veterans Success Center (MVSC) at Stockton. “The ‘students first’ approach of the center and partners in financial aid allows relationships to be built that are key to providing tailored support services and referrals to our on- and off-campus partners.”

Inaugural Awards Ceremony Demonstrates Power of Mentorship

“As my (Stockton Women’s Leadership Council) ladies know, behind every successful woman is a tribe of other successful women who have her back.”

The Campus Center Event Room eruptedinto applause as Susan Adelizzi-Schmidt, Ed.D. ’23, concluded her introductory remarks. She was presenting the SWLC Student Leadership Award to her mentee, Tina Byrne ‘20, during the council’s first-ever Excellence in Mentoring Awards on Friday, March 22.

The Stockton Women’s Leadership Council (SWLC) is a Stockton University Foundation initiative dedicated to the empowerment of women and seeks to promote networking among women and the community. The SWLC offers a platform for professionals to build relationships, discuss issues related to women, engage in mentorship opportunities, and explore ways that relevant program events and leadership development opportunities can be supported by enhanced philanthropy.

New Certificate for Social Workers Focuses on Disordered Eating

The Office of Continuing Studies and Adult Education (OCSAE) at Stockton is accepting registrants for a new certificate program on disordered eating.

The series titled “Understanding the Spectrum of Eating Disordered Behaviors” is part of Stockton’s Social Work Continuing Education Program. It’s taught by Suzanne Rubinetti, LCSW, and features five workshops to address the many aspects of clinical work with eating disorders. Each workshop is taught live on Zoom and is 2.5 hours long beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Fridays, April 26, May 3, 17, 31 and June 14.

The series begins with a two-part workshop titled “Eating Disorders & OCD,” which is required for completing the remaining three sections of the program. Clinicians who don’t complete the first two meetings will not be permitted to complete the series. The other three workshops will focus on orthorexia, intuitive eating and intergenerational food trauma.

Foundation Benefit Gala to be Held April 20 at Hard Rock

The Stockton University Foundation proudly announcesits Scholarship Benefit Gala on April 20, 2024, which is hosted for the third year in a row by Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City.

“This year’s gala holds special significance as we celebrate the historic inauguration of Dr. Joe Bertolino as the sixth president of Stockton University, while also underscoring the critical importance of supporting student scholarships," said Brigid Harrison ’88, Stockton University Foundation board chair. "Scholarship assistance is essential in providing deserving students with the resources they need to pursue their academic goals.”

The event will feature activities led by students and faculty, live music by Philly’s Finest, networking opportunities, fabulous raffles and more - all while supporting scholarships for Stockton students.

SPOTLIGHT ON: NANCY REDDY

Nancy Reddy, assistant professor of Writing and First-Year Studies, received some exciting news recently. Reddy, who has taught at Stockton since 2015, learned she was awarded an Individual Artist Fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

Reddy was named a Prose Fellow and received $13,200, part of the $1.7 million grant awarded to 161 artists across the state. The Fellowships are highly competitive and granted solely on independent peer panel assessment of work samples. The anonymous process is focused on artistic quality, and awards may be used to help artists produce new work and advance their careers.

Reddy sat down to discuss this award, her experiences as a writer, and how it all relates to her work here at Stockton.

Open House Shined Despite the Wet Weather

It didn’t rain; it poured future Ospreys at Discover Stockton Day on March 23 at the Galloway campus.

More than 1,200 guests embraced the early spring raindrops to visit campus and learn about all the University has to offer.

Stockton Shuts Out Eastern 18-0

The women’s lacrosse team continued the best start to a season in program history with an 18-0 shutout of Eastern University on March 27 that kept the Ospreys undefeated and extended their school-record winning streak to 11 games.

Brianna Robinson scored a career-high four goals and Mary Meduri also netted four markers for Stockton. Freshman Madison MacGillivray established career highs of three goals and four points.

Stockton Opens Spring Slate at Washington College

The women’s rowing team beganthe spring season by rowing in the Washington College Invitational on March 22. The Ospreys competed in races against Wellesley, Washington College, Pacific Lutheran, Cabrini and Bryn Mawr that were held on the Chester River.

The Stockton varsity eight rowed in a pair of races. The Ospreys finished second in their heat of three behind two-time defending NCAA champion Wellesley with a time of 6:30.40. In their second race, Stockton finished in 6:56.36 for third place behind Wellesley and Bryn Mawr.

The varsity eight featured four 2023 MARC all-conference selections: Emily Latshaw, Amber Hartzell, Madelynn Schina and Megan Baldwin.

Stockton will host the Battle at Brigantine at 4 p.m. on March 29 and 8:30 a.m. on March 30.

Four Ospreys Receive Academic All-District Honors

Four basketball players receivedAcademic All-District honors from the College Sports Communicators for the 2023-24 season. Women's basketball guard Emma Morrone earned a CSC Academic All-District nod for the second straight year.

Morrone was joined by teammates Imene Fathi and Brianna Robinson, along with men's basketball player Christian Armstrong-Thomas. Fathi, Robinson and Armstrong-Thomas all qualified for the first time.

Annual Tuition Hearing Set for April 17

Prior to determining tuition and fees for the upcoming year, Stockton is required by New Jersey statute to hold a public hearing. This year the Finance and Professional Services Committee of the Board of Trustees will host the University’s Annual Tuition Hearing on Wednesday, April 17 at 2 p.m. in the Michael Jacobson BOT Room in the Campus Center. This is an opportunity for the views of the Stockton community to be shared with members of the Board of Trustees.

University leadership has prepared several tuition and fee increase scenarios for your consideration. You can view these scenarios in the Portal. You will have the opportunity to comment on the proposed FY 2025 tuition and fee increases during the April 17 meeting. If you would like to make a public comment in-person, or would like your comment to be read, please register in advance of the meeting to ensure time is allotted for your comment. Registration to attend the meeting is not required. The hearing will also be available via a Zoom webinar.

It’s time to celebrate the brilliance within our ranks. Do you have colleagues who go above and beyond? Now is your chance to recognize and applaud their outstanding contributions.

The OSPREY Awards recognize outstanding faculty and staff for achievements on and off the Stockton campuses. They focus on areas such as scholarship, research, University service and community impact. The inaugural OSPREY Awards will be presented at the Employee Recognition Day Ceremony on Thursday, May 2.

State Deadline for Students to Apply for Aid is May 15!

It’s FAFSA time! Please encourage your students to complete their 24-25 FAFSA by May 15!
Anyone who received the State of NJ Tuition Aid Grant (TAG) and/or the Stockton Promise in the 23-24 academic year must complete their 24-25 FAFSA by May 15 in order to be considered for any type of state funding and for the Stockton Promise in 24-25. This deadline was extended from April 15 for this year only.

No FAFSA by May 15 = no state aid or Stockton Promise consideration
Students can file at fafsa.gov by logging in with their FSA ID. The Office of Financial Aid is hosting FAFSA Filing Assistance sessions throughout March and April. Students can sign up for a one-on-one session by visiting stockton.edu/contactfinaid.

Please note: NJ Dreamers will not file the FAFSA. They will file the NJ Alternative Financial Aid Application by May 15 to be considered for state aid as well as the Stockton Promise at hesaa.org.
