🎖️Stockton Receives High Marks for Veterans in Military Times Rankings
Military Times recently recognized Stockton as one of the top schools in the state and in the Mid-Atlantic for military service members and veterans.
Stockton was ranked No. 2 in New Jersey and No. 10 in the Mid-Atlantic region. The university was No. 141 out of 325 schools nationwide in the rankings, which were released on Nov. 6.
“On behalf of the staff of the Military and Veteran Success Center (MVSC) and our partners in the Financial Aid office, we are honored and proud to have Stockton ranked again within the Military Times Best for Vets rankings,” said Michael Barany, the director of the MVSC. “This would not have been possible without Stockton's military-affiliated students, proving that they are not only exceptional learners but also dedicated students and outstanding contributors to their community.”
🎖️ 2nd Annual Community & Vets Fair is Dynamic, Full of Opportunities
According to John & Jacqueline Hinker, finding resources and information as a veteran was difficult before events like Stockton's second annual Community & Veteran Resource and Wellness Fair, which took place in the Campus Center on Nov. 1.
John, an Army veteran and current junior vice commander for the Veterans of Foreign Wars – Department of New Jersey (VFW – NJ), has been a part of the VFW for around 18 years. In his role, he is able to help other veterans get the resources and support they need. He’s proud to be able to continue that work through events like the fair.
“You know, it touches me every time I get to come out and be able to talk to our new friends that we found today and to see that Stockton brings all of the resources to the veterans,” John said. “I think it's really good for them to have those resources available to them because, back in the day, we didn't have the resources that Stockton's offering right now to our veterans, which is a great, great thing.”
First to Soar Event Celebrates First-Generation Day
There are three things that students should be focused on during their higher education journey – themselves, their circle and the finish line waiting for them once they earn their degree – according to Michael Spence, first-generation college graduate and keynote speaker at the First to Soar Celebration on Nov. 7
“For all of us in here, we're going down the path that no one in our family has ever gone down, and sometimes, it's probably one of the hardest things to go through,” Spence told the audience of first-generation students at Stockton. “See, it's easy to walk in someone else's footprints, but how about walking footprints that were never laid out for you? How do I make this journey that I got sent out to do and that I wanted people before me to do? I’m here to tell you that that pressure could either burst pipes or turn into diamonds, but it’s all about what you’re made of. I’m here to tell you that this journey here is not here to burst your pipes but to help make you a diamond.”

LIGHT Announces New Casino-Based Certificate
The Lloyd D. Levenson Institute of Gaming, Hospitality and Tourism (LIGHT) at Stockton's School of Business has partnered with casino industry experts to launch a new certificate program.
The Integrated Casino Resort Operations Certificate was designed in collaboration with human resources professionals and industry experts to deliver the in-demand, industry specific skills they are looking for when promoting new talent, said Jane Bokunewicz, LIGHT’s faculty director.
The eight-unit series covers the breadth of casino resort operations from gaming and surveillance to food and beverage to meetings and conventions and will give participants a background in all departments.
🐌🦀 Touch Tank at 'Second Saturdays' Nov. 11
Second Saturdays in Atlantic City are a series of family-friendly events, hosted by Stockton University Alumni Relations, held on the second Saturday of every month at Stockton Atlantic City.
Join Jenkinson's Aquarium for a hands-on discovery of live specimens, such as sea stars, urchins, snails and horseshoe crabs, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 11, in the Fannie Lou Hamer Event Room. Learn about their common characteristics and how they are grouped together.
A light lunch will be provided following the activity. Register here.

Honorees Recognized at Black Faculty and Staff Dinner
Two Stockton professors with a combined 64 years of teaching were among the honorees at the Stockton Council of Black Faculty and Staff 39th annual Scholarship Award Dinner and Dance at the Carriage House on Nov. 2.
The council celebrated 51 years of service to Stockton and, to date, has awarded $273,500 in scholarships to both undergraduate and graduate students.
“The dinner was our first, post-COVID-19,” said Patricia Collins, the president of the Council of Black Faculty and Staff. “The event was filled with excitement as we celebrated our honorees and their successes, commitment to CBFS, Stockton University, students, community and the state of New Jersey. These scholarships are also key in helping support the academic success of our students.”

Volleyball Team Advances to NJAC Championship, 3-1
The volleyball team advanced to the NJAC championship match by outlasting William Paterson 3-1 in four close sets on Nov. 9. The Ospreys took the first two sets 25-21 and 25-23, then dropped the third 25-21 before prevailing 29-27 in a lengthy final frame.
On the day she was announced as NJAC Player of the Year, Nicole Palmer led Stockton with 19 kills, one off her career high. Kate Louer spiked a season-high 15 kills for the Ospreys.
Stockton, the No. 1 seed, will host No. 2 seed Ramapo College in the NJAC championship match at 1 p.m. tomorrow, Nov. 11. The Ospreys will be seeking the program's 15th NJAC title.
Stockton Wins Season Opener 62-46
The women’s basketball team used a big fourth quarter to down Penn State-Harrisburg by a 62-46 score on Nov. 8 in the season opener for both teams. Skylar Fowlkes topped four Ospreys in double figures with a career-high 13 points.
The contest started slowly, with the Lions forging a 10-6 lead after one period of play. The Ospreys started to find their footing during the second period, in which they outscored the visitors 17-6 to take a 23-16 lead at the break. Imene Fathi led the way with six points, with Brianna Robinson adding five markers.
