WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT
New Stockton-ACIT Partnership Creates Buzz About Bees
Every spring, thousands of bees descend on South Jersey's blueberry farms to help pollinate one of the state's most important crops.
But once those bees leave their hives, how do farmers know they're actually pollinating the blueberry bushes on their farm and not flying off to another field?
That's a question students and researchers from Stockton and the Atlantic County Institute of Technology (ACIT) hope to answer through a new collaboration that will use drones and advanced imaging technology to track the movements of bees at a Hammonton blueberry farm.
The Levine and Gormley Family Foundations have pledged $20,000 to support the project with an additional $40,000 scholarship offered to an ACIT student involved with the project to attend Stockton.
“This is the best of Atlantic County. You’ve all come together, and its potential is unlimited and we’re very excited and very happy to be involved,” said former State Sen. Bill Gormley during a panel discussion and announcement of the project at ACIT.
Stockton Open House Draws About 1,500 Attendees
Stockton welcomed about 1,500 prospective students and their families to its fall Open House on Oct. 17, offering an opportunity to explore academic programs, tour campus and experience life as an Osprey.
Prospective first-year and transfer students met with President Joe Bertolino and Admissions staff to learn more about the university and the application process.
Throughout the afternoon, visitors toured the Galloway campus with student Admissions Ambassadors — including the new Richard E. Bjork Library & Learning Commons, explored campus housing options and participated in Discover Your Major sessions highlighting Stockton's academic programs, career opportunities and dual-degree options.
“Open House gives prospective students and their families an opportunity to experience what makes Stockton special — from our engaging academic programs and hands-on learning opportunities to the supportive community that helps students succeed,” said Moses Goldmon, vice president for Enrollment Management. “We want every student who visits to leave with a sense of belonging and confidence that Stockton is a place where they can achieve their goals.”

Stockton Foiled in Bid to Upset #2 Rowan
Stockton University scored first but was foiled in its bid to upset second-ranked and unbeaten Rowan University on a pair of goals in the last 30 minutes that resulted in a 2-1 setback.
Aiden Hoenisch scored his third goal of the season with just 39 seconds gone in the second half to put the Ospreys on top 1-0.

Stockton goalkeeper Dan Raivitch made five saves on the night. Raivitch recorded three stops and Demier Tossie knocked a header off the post during the scoreless first half.
Stockton will be on the road on Saturday for a conference game at New Paltz that kicks off at 3 p.m.
