A Message from President Harvey Kesselman
Opportunity. Often, it’s an experience that can change a person’s path in life. It’s a class that sparks a career interest; a mentorship program that creates a lasting relationship; a handshake that turns into a valuable job reference; an internship that leads to a full-time position.
For me, the word opportunity carries so much meaning, both personally and professionally. As a first-generation college student, I had the opportunity to engage with influential faculty and mentors while pursuing my undergraduate degree from Stockton. In addition, during the beginning of my professional tenure at Stockton, I had the good fortune of overseeing the University’s Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) program and witnessed firsthand the program’s transformative impact on the lives of so many deserving students.
This issue of Stockton Now highlights Stockton’s EOF program, its success and how it is growing with another program focused on Stockton and Atlantic City. We also introduce our new vice president for Student Affairs Christopher C. Catching, an EOF alumnus, who shares his story of evolving from a student leader to a leader in higher education. Throughout these pages, you will also read more stories of opportunity, which are available to our students both here within our local community and abroad.
At Stockton, our mission is to ensure that we provide opportunities for all students to access a high-quality education that prepares them for future success.
I hope you enjoy reading this issue of Stockton Now e-zine.
Dr. Harvey Kesselman, President
