Stockton's Connection to Atlantic City 2022-2023
NJEDA to Partner with Stockton University on Esports Innovation Center
The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) Board recently approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Stockton University to support the establishment of an esports Innovation Center at the university’s Atlantic City campus. The NJEDA will provide $200,000 in funding and provide staff support for the Innovation Center, which is expected to contribute to establishing Atlantic City as a hub for the rapidly growing esports industry.
Engelberg Leadership Scholarship Program
The Engelberg Leadership Schoalrship Program is a major scholarship and leadership development program made possible through a $1 million commitment from Alfred Engelberg, a 1956 Atlantic City High School graduate who became a successful intellectual property lawyer. Learn more about this life-changing program and the first cohort of student recipients who will receive an enriched educational experience with all costs covered, including tuition, fees, room, board, books and any other program cost.
Stockton Atlantic City Solutions Initiative (SACSI)
Stockton University believes that faculty and students have the capacity, and responsibility, to study important contemporary issues, and contribute to the betterment of their communities. This commitment to civic learning is so deeply interwoven into the institution’s fabric, that it forms part of the University’s mission statement: “Through research and community service, we actively seek to take advantage of and to improve the unique physical and human environment.” Because of its recent growth and commitment to Atlantic City in particular, the state designated Stockton as an anchor institution in 2016. Community Engagement
Through the years, Stockton has remained involved in the Atlantic City community with food drives, homework completion programs, Campus Kitchen, Community Gardens, school murals and afternoon teas with older adults. Most recently, Stockton also provides poetry classes, basketball skills, and strength and conditioning training for the Atlantic City’s Evening Recreation Program held at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. School.
University District
The Atlantic City Council approved the designation of a University District surrounding the Stockton University Atlantic City Campus on July 18, 2018. The district stretches from the bay to the ocean in the Chelsea section of the city and can be identified by the University District banners that fly throughout the area. The University District extends from Sovereign Avenue to Dover Avenue and from the Boardwalk to the Inside Thoroughfare. It also crosses over the Albany Avenue Bridge to include the area between Albany Avenue and Trenton Avenue to West End Avenue, and almost 50 acres within Bader Field. Anchor Institution
In April 2016, the state of New Jersey designated Stockton University as an Anchor Institution. The decision to do so recognizes Stockton’s impact on Atlantic City and the surrounding region, as well as its potential to contribute to and help stabilize the local economy.
