Board of Trustees Statement of Commitment and Responsibilities
Each member of the Stockton University Board of Trustees accepts the responsibilities set forth in this document. Further, each Trustee confirms their commitment to perform their legal and fiduciary responsibilities in the governance and support of Stockton University’s mission and values.
As a member of the Board of Trustees, I will:

Behave ethically according to the expectations of a Trustee;

Stay focused on the Board’s strategic role and act in the best interests of Stockton students and the community that serves them;

Respect Stockton’s history and be open to think strategically to advance the University mission and values in new ways;

Serve as a Stockton ambassador and, in coordination with the Office of the President, engage in university activities;

Become a student of higher education who is knowledgeable and well-informed about Stockton University;

Prepare for, attend, participate, and ask relevant questions at Board meetings;

Presume that other Board members possess good intentions for the University;

Not make or take matters personally, while encouraging open dialogue, spirited and, productive debate among Board members;

Value other Board member’s time;

Commit to and expect that a spirit of transparency will foster trust. One important component is the reliance of elected officers to communicate to all Board members any potentially significant matters that may impact any Board member from fulfilling our duties and responsibilities; and
-
Honor the principles of partnership by informing the President and/or Assistant Secretary to the Board (Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff) when communicating with university faculty and staff regarding any matters related to the work of the Board.
