Text-Messaging Notification Systems

 text message system stockton

The University recently added text messaging options to reach students for specific reasons, primarily to serve as a notice or a reminder that significant University-business matters require your attention.

The new platform, Osprey Updates, will be used by the offices of Enrollment Management (including the Bursar’s Office and Financial Aid) as well as student-centered activities within the Division of Student Affairs (EOF, TALONS, FirstOspreys and more) to reach you with important messages. We expect this service to be used sparingly, so that you recognize the texts you receive are truly important and require your attention.

This service is separate from our Emergency Stockton Alerts system, which provides updates on urgent matters that may affect University hours or campus access.

Emergency Alerts

Stockton selected text messaging as a preferred medium of emergency communication over voice messaging because text messaging can be more rapidly transmitted to a large number of recipients.  Moreover, terse messages are less burdensome to public telephone networks, which can sometimes become overwhelmed by the high volume of voice calls that often ensue during emergencies.

Stockton’s rapid text messaging service is one of several notification tools that the University has available for emergency communications.  Stockton’s other emergency broadcast services include: cable television, email, Internet web site postings, electronic message boards,  campus PBX voice messaging to dormitory and office telephones, and an electronic classroom notification service, which automatically turns on video projectors in campus classrooms and displays emergency notices.
