Statement to the Stockton University Community Regarding the Final 2020 Title IX Regulations
On May 6, 2020, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) issued final Title IX regulations. The regulations mandate how Stockton University, along with colleges and universities across the country, must investigate and adjudicate cases under Title IX, a federal statute that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex or gender in any federally funded education program or activity. The U.S. Department of Education has given schools until August 14, 2020 to comply with the new Title IX regulations.
Over the coming weeks, the University will be carefully reviewing the final Title IX regulations and determining how to implement the new requirements in a way that best preserves fairness, thoroughness, and sensitivity to the needs of all parties and witnesses.
Changes to our current policies, procedures, and guides will be necessary to align our processes with the new federal and state mandates. In the interim, Stockton will continue to prioritize sexual misconduct education, prevention, and response. Stockton also remains committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming educational and working environment for everyone, and an array of fair, supportive, effective processes to address sex or gender discrimination and sexual misconduct when it occurs.
