Get FIT Seniors is an exercise and nutrition program for older adults living in a local assisted living facility. Graduate assistants from occupational therapy and physical therapy help a licensed occupational therapist run the weekly group. Graduate students from the physical therapy, occupational therapy and communication disorders programs facilitate a nutrition lesson and fun exercise each week. Additionally, undergraduate BSHS students interact one to one with the participants.
Making Connections: Research to Practice Across Disciplines
On Tuesday, December 3rd, 2019, the school of Health Sciences hosted an interprofessional networking dinner and educational session. This event was designed for occupational and speech language pathology practitioners to network with other practitioners and learn about best practices in the provision of therapeutic services. Participants discussed evidence-based practice therapeutic interventions for traumatic brain injury, autism spectrum disorder, Parkinson's disease, cancer, post- operation, chronic pain, and more. Participants were able to integrate these topics to promote interprofessional application in the clinical setting.

The Colombia Project
Stockton’s collaborative exchange relationship in Colombia began four years ago with Universidad del Rosario and also the Escuela Colombiana de Rehabilitacion, a second smaller university. Since Fall 2015, Stockton has hosted a group of four exchange students annually. These students are integrated interprofessionally into the the fields of Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Nursing, Health Science, and Public Health offered at Stockton University. This program provides a unique way of learning to both the Colombian and Stockton students, as it fosters the development of both cultural and educational perspectives. The Josh Vadell Story: How Resilience, Love and the Warrior Spirit Play a Key Role in Surviving Critical Incidents
Clients and families are integral parts of an interprofessional team. Our keynote will share the importance of teamwork - from his role as a police officer, to his role as a brain injury survivor. Josh Vadell is a husband and father of three girls. He is a 10 year veteran of the Atlantic City Police Department where he served in the Operations Division. On September 3, 2016, while on duty, Josh was shot in the head and critically injured while he and his partner interrupted an armed robbery in progress. After his near fatal incident, he has gone through extensive physical and emotional therapy and has endured numerous surgeries for injuries sustained because of the shooting. As part of his ongoing recovery, Josh has appeared as a guest speaker to share his miraculous story of love, resiliency and how the warrior spirit plays a significant role in surviving critical incidents.
Josh and his wife recently started a non-profit foundation called "The Josh Vadell Foundation" which they are very passionate about. The mission of the foundation is to provide monetary and emotional support to families of officers critically injured in the line of duty.To learn more about Josh's story and foundation, please click here.
An Intergenerational IPE Initiative: A Pilot Project Joining University Students and Older Adults

Clinical Education Workshop 2017
On Friday, December 8th, the School of Health Sciences held its fourth annual clinical education workshop, "Know the Power within You." This years theme was Star Wars.The event hosted ninety-eight clinicians from the fields of Communication Disorders, Physical Therapy, and Occupational Therapy where they heard presentations from Stockton faculty specifically designed to enhance their ability to facilitate student learning in their practice environments. Topics of discussion included presentations on using emotional intelligence to assist in clinical education performance, identifying cultural competence and sensitivity in others, the importance of interprofessional collaborative practice, and the importance of debriefing clinical students during assessment. Presentations were given by Jennifer Calabrese, Academic Fieldwork Coordinator, Phil Hernandez, Assistant Professor of Communication Disorders, Amy Hadley, Associate Professor of Communication Disorders, Lee Ann Guenther, Associate Professor of Physical Therapy, Mark Adelung, Assistant Professor of Nursing, and Joyce Welliver, adjunct instructor. The theme of this year's event was Harry Potter.This year ninety--five clinicians from the fields of Communication Disorders, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Nursing heard presentations from Stockton faculty specifically designed to enhance their ability to facilitate student learning in their practice environments. Topics of discussion included presentations on "generational differences", "learning and change", "standards of professionalism", and LGBTQ terminology as well as identities. Summer 2016 Special Education Conference
Priti Haria traveled to Nicaragua in July 2016 to present findings from a University wide IPE event at the Division of International Special Education Services Conference. The presentation was entitled: “Impact of Collaborative Panel Discussion about Autism on Student Perceptions of Interprofessional Core Competencies.” Priti Haria and Chelsea Tracy-Bronson in the School of Education partnered with Margaret Slusser and Patricia McGinnis from the School of Health Sciences on the project.
Stockton University Presentations at All Together Better Health (ATBH) VIII

Stockton University represented by several faculty at ATBH VIII, a global interprofessional practice and education conference. Every 2 years, providers, educators, policy makers, and health care industry leaders come together to advance interprofessionalism locally, regionally and worldwide. ATBH participants discuss ideas and devise strategies "to mobilize concerted action to improve health and wellbeing for individuals, families, and communities".

ASAHP Fall 2016 Conference
Stockton faculty and staff from Stockton's School of Health Sciences were a strong presence at the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions (ASAHP) Conference October 19-21, 2016 in New Orleans, LA. ASAHP is a national organization for administrators and educators, and is a leader in interprofessional education. The theme of the conference was "Looking Out on the Horizon: Emerging Issues in Allied Health Education and Practice."

School of Health Sciences Assistant to the Dean and Health Science student, Heather Watkins-Jones was selected to be part of a national student board charged with the task of developing a student assembly for ASAHP. She and her fellow students affectionately known as the Magnificent Seven presented their proposal to the Board of Directors at the ASAHP National Conference in New Orleans on October 16th.
ASHA Fall 2016 Conference
The American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) National Conference was held in Philadelphia, PA on November 17 – 19, 2016. Monika Pawlowska, Lauren Del Rossi, and Mary Kientz presented a seminar session entitled “Introducing Baby Day – A Hands-on IPE Experience.” Their presentation generated lively discussion about this innovative approach to IPE. Co-authors Mary Padden Denmead and Patricia McGinnis rounded out the interprofessional team from Stockton’s School of Health Sciences.
Stockton Faculty Present at Collaborting Across Boders V
Collaborating Across Borders V (CAB V) is the premeir North American conference on Interprofessional Education (IPE) and Interprofessional Collaborative Practice (IPCP) in health and social care. CAB V was held September 29-October 3, 2015 in Roanoke, VA. This community of individuals, professions, and organizations is "committed to collaboration as the best way of providing quality care and better health outcomes." Several faculty represented Stockton at this prestigious conference by presenting the outcomes of our SHS Common Reading:
