Academic Overload

Full-time students may take an academic overload (more than 20 credits per term during fall and spring semesters, more than eight (8) credits during concurrent summer sessions, or more than four (4) credits during winter term) only if they meet the following criteria:

  • have completed at least two terms as a full-time student at Stockton
  • have achieved a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 in all course work attempted at Stockton
  • have no current incomplete grades

Students meeting these criteria and wishing to take an academic overload must submit an Academic Overload Request form.

For undergraduate students, the completed form must be approved by the student’s preceptor(s), the School Dean or their designee, and the Center for Academic Advising.

For graduate students, the form must be approved by the program chair(s) and School Dean or their designee.

Students must submit the necessary form by the end of the Drop/Add period for the session in which they wish to enroll. Students are advised to review their request for an overload with the Office of Financial Aid and the Bursar’ Office prior to enrollment in order to maximize financial aid and fully understand the billing implications of enrolling in additional credits.
