HLTH 3311-301: Pathophysiology
This course explores the mechanisms of disease and alterations in body defenses of all body systems. The general principles governing inflammation, repair and immunity and the diseases of organ systems are presented. Genetic control and environmental influences provide the foundation for exploration of systems disorders. The role of fluid and electrolyte balance in the development of pathology is discussed.
SOWK 5571-401: Trauma Informed Child Welfare
This course is designed to expand child welfare workers’ knowledge, skills, and values about working with children who have experienced traumatic stress within the child welfare system. The course describes traumatic stress and its impact on children, assessment tools that can help identify children affected by traumatic stress, and provides ways that child welfare workers can manage professional stress. It also teaches how to use this knowledge to support children’s safety, permanency, and well-being through case analysis and corresponding interventions tailored for them and their biological and resource families.
SOWK 5572-401: Child Welfare Leadership & Supervision
This elective course is designed for students who are currently in a child welfare supervisory position. This course focuses on leadership principles and the role of strengths-based supervision in retaining child welfare employees as well as improving outcomes for clients served by the child welfare system.

GNM 1136-001: The Science of Forecasting Waves
This course includes the science/math/technology associated with surf forecasting. Students are introduced to waves, surfing equipment, tracking swell, buoy models, hurricanes, weather, bathymetry, tides, wind, and coastal erosion processes. Using actual, re-enacted, and staged events students will examine the relationship between wave models, storms, and related science principles.
