Certificate in Elder Care Coordination

A 15-Week Online Training Program for staff from members firms of the Life Care Planning Law Firms Association (LCPLFA)

The Spring 2025 Program will run from March 3, 2025 - June 23, 2025. Please follow the link to apply for our Spring 2025 course.

SCOSA, in collaboration with the Life Care Planning Law Firms Association (LCPLFA) offers an innovative online learning program for Elder Care Coordinators (ECCs) who work at member firms. The course, which has trained 179 employees from 31 U.S. states since 2012, provides the tools and support needed to promote best practice for ECCs.

David C. Burdick, Ph.D. (University of Notre Dame),
FGSA, FAGHE, Professor Emeritus of Psychology: Adult development and aging, technology and aging, intergenerational relationships, applied gerontology, mental health and aging.

David Burdick is professor emeritus of psychology, gerontology, and sustainability studies. He joined the Stockton faculty in 1984 after receiving his BA in psychology and environmental studies from Alfred University (1977), and his MA (1980) and PhD (1983) in psychology from the University of Notre Dame. His community-focused career was cultivated as a staff member of Notre Dame’s Center for Gerontological Education, Research, and Services and strengthened by a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Applied Gerontology with the Gerontological Society of America in 1984. In 2005 he and Professor Emerita Linda Wharton led Stockton and community partners through a year-long “Journey Towards Democracy” project funded by the American Association of Colleges and Universities, designed to increase Stockton’s intentionality and focus upon civic engagement and community partnerships. He served on the advisory committee of the Stockton Center for Community Engagement and on the Stockton Foundation's Scholarship Selection Committee (as co-chair for many years), and as an at-large member of the Stockton Faculty Senate.

A regular contributor to several community efforts as a board member, trustee, or consultant, he held leadership positions for various state and national organizations. He was selected by Governor Christine Todd Whitman in 1995 as a Delegate to the White House Conference on Aging and facilitated a day-long session on “Quality of Life” for the NJ Delegation. A former president of the Society on Aging of New Jersey, he received the Society's Gerontologist of the Year Award in 1997. His scholarly interests center on intergenerational relationships and technology and aging. His scholarly work/publications include a co-edited book entitled Gerotechnology: Research and practice in technology and aging (Springer, 2005), Guest Editor of a Special Issue on Accreditation in Gerontology for the Journal of Gerontology & GeriatricsEducation (2012), and co-authored chapters on technology and long-term care in two recent books: Furphy, K., & Burdick, D. Dr. Burdick served two terms on the Executive Committee of the Association (now Academy) for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE) in addition to serving on several other committees, including as Chair of Advancement and Academic Program Development. He is a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America and the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education. He received AGHE’s prestigious Clark Tibbitts Award in 2019 for outstanding contribution to the advancement of gerontology as a field of study in institutions of higher education for significant contributions to the field of gerontology and geriatrics education and the Mildred Seltzer Distinguished Service Honor in 2024. Dr. Burdick was also the Director of the Stockton Center on Successful Aging (SCOSA).

Dr. Burdick retired in June 2024.

 

 Ann Crozier

Anne Crozier, BSW, CSW, CECC

Anne has over 25 years’ experience working closely with the elderly in many different facets of health care, including adult day care, long term care, behavior management, hemo-dialysis, sub-acute rehab, ventilator, hospital settings, and assisted living facilities. In her current role as Director of Care Coordination at Bratton Law, Anne assists clients and their families in coordination of their health and long-term care and serves as their advocate by empowering them with the knowledge to attain the highest quality of life.

Currently, Anne serves as Secretary on the Life Care Planning Law Firm Association’s Board of Directors and has recently been elected as Committee Chairperson of the Tri-County Regional Ethics Committee.

Anne graduated from Monmouth College with a degree in social work, and received her Gerontology Certificate from Florida State University.

Kerstin Maguire

SCOSA TES

Kerstin earned her Bachelor of Science in Health Science from Stockton University in 2022, and recently completed a Paralegal Studies program at Boston University. As an alumni of Stockton, Kerstin gained valuable experience working in higher education, serving as an office assistant at the Center on Successful Aging (SCOSA) and as a Service-Learning Support staff member at the Center for Community Engagement and Service-Learning (SCCESL). Additionally, her work in the healthcare field with primarily older adult clientele has further prepared her to engage with older adults through various SCOSA programs. 

Kerstin was a listed author on the published article "As We Age: Listening to the Voice of LGBTQ Older Adults" in the Social Work Public Health Journal. She also contributed to a comprehensive book chapter on technological interventions in community-based occupational therapy practice for older adults, which was published by Elsevier. Additionally, Kerstin participated in a gerontology program research tutorial, conducting an extensive review of scholarly literature on the issue of falls among older adults and exploring interventions to reduce and prevent them.

Kerstin is currently researching "The Effect of Visual Manipulation on Postural Responses of Young and Older Adults" and has presented her findings at Stockton University’s Fall Day of Scholarship in 2022 as well as the 2024 Scholarship, Teaching, & Research Symposium.

 

The Certificate in Elder Care Coordination (CECC) is a 15-week online post-baccalaureate continuing professional education certificate program designed to provide practical, application-based knowledge and skills to Elder Care Coordinators working at member firms of the Life Care Planning Law Firm Association (LCPLFA), using best practice approaches from the fields of gerontology, social work, geriatric care management, and elder law.

This online program is designed with the busy professional in mind. The 15-week program, divided into three 5-week courses (with one week after each course for testing and a break) consists of PowerPoint “Lectures”, Assigned Readings, Discussion, Chat, and Assessment. The Certificate program is currently open only to staff from LCPLFA law firms.

Participants in this post-graduate program must generally hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university (exceptions are considered on a case-by-case basis, based upon work experience). Registration is limited, and first-come, first-served.
