Peer Observation of Teaching

Peer evaluation is a collegial process of discussing pedagogical goals and obtaining feedback from a tenured faculty colleague. Feedback provided serves as formative assessment designed to highlight strengths and identify strategies to improve teaching skills and summative assessment designed to evaluate alignment with formal teaching standards for tenure and promotion.
Any tenured Stockton faculty member in or outside of your program or school may conduct a peer evaluation (also known as peer observation) when requested. You are required to have two peer observations each year (typically one per semester). If teaching a general studies course, at least one peer evaluation must be completed in the general studies course. If teaching online or hybrid courses, at least one evaluation should be completed for the online or hybrid.
The faculty peer evaluator will provide you with a summary of your teaching strengths and offer ideas for enhancing your pedagogy. These observations are confidential. Faculty being evaluated are free to choose to use or not to use a specific peer evaluation report in the tenure and promotion file or other official evaluations of performance.
The Stockton Institute for Peer Evaluation of Teaching (SIPET) is offered as a summer institute. In SIPET, colleagues are trained to observe and provide feedback on your teaching in face-to-face, hybrid, or online classes.
