Become a Tutor

If you are interested in becoming a tutor, we are always looking for talented students who have a strong desire to help others.

Math Tutors

Math tutors are generally hired from the following majors: mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, physical therapy, environmental science, marine science, business, computer science, economics psychology, criminal justice and education. Students from other majors who have done well in Q-designated courses have also been hired as math tutors.

To apply, fill out a tutor application. You will also need two faculty members to submit a recommendation to the same office.

When your application is complete, we will invite you for an interview. You should be aware that hiring is contingent upon participation in tutor training as well as attendance at tutor meetings scheduled several times each semester

Writing Tutors

Students interested in becoming a tutor at the Writing Center must successfully complete the Writing Tutor Practicum (GEN 3952), a four credit, writing intensive (W1) course. Admission to the Practicum is by permission of instructor, with two faculty recommendations required. Course material includes a review of English grammar and usage, as well as the techniques of effective tutoring. Other topics include an appreciation of non-verbal and intercultural communication. Students participating in the Practicum meet once a week as a class while they tutor 3-4 hours a week in the Writing Center.

If you are interested in becoming a tutor and enrolling in the Practicum, please contact Eddie Horan, Writing Center Coordinator, by email or through the Writing Center by calling 609-652-4441.
